CLAYCO GREEN BUILDING PERSPECTIVE

Waste material is sorted on the job site

Clayco takes the responsibility on every project we deliver to ensure clients are offered a wide variety of solutions that will meet their needs and goals.  On any project, economics, public and social issues, architectural preference and the reality of the client program drive the final solution, but often there are other pieces that can make the puzzle more complete. In today’s world, many owners are interested in the concept of “green” architecture or LEED certification. As a full-service real estate development, design and construction firm, we are in a unique position to control all phases of a sustainable project, including design, estimating, buyout, documentation, construction and successful completion in an “integrated services approach”. Our versatility enables us to be involved in much more than just one piece of the puzzle and to create a successful outcome for everyone involved.

Transplanting trees!

When programming, planning or designing building layouts, analyzing building systems or specifying products and materials, our design teams always consider what will provide the client with the best long-term benefit as well as best value. With our creative and innovative approach, design tools, knowledge and experience, Clayco is able to provide clients with the maximum benefit at the best possible cost. In the field, many of our regular practices are recognized as “green” friendly. Ultimately, the commitment to GO GREEN on a project or to pursue LEED certification must be a collaborative process between the owner, community and the design-builder. All goals, including cost, must be weighed carefully before initiating the process.

For projects pursuing formal LEED Certification, the Clayco team has developed a carefully planned system of design and cost assistance with the owner and design team; a buyout approach that clearly identifies to all bid parties the specific LEED or sustainable approaches to be implemented on a project by project basis; a method to capture the identifiable cost premiums for LEED and evaluate any additional costs with the owner prior to award of a bid package.  The Clayco Mandatory Green Building Rules are unique to the industry and a natural fit on Clayco projects.  The Clayco Green Building Rules are closely aligned with Clayco Safety Rules as we have come to realize, a healthy clean “green” building during construction is a safer building during construction

The building impact on the environment is significant.  Clayco is proud to be a responsible builder. We recently were ranked No. 10 on Engineering News-Record’s first-ever ranking of the Top 50 Green Contractors in the country. We were the only St. Louis firm on the list.
