Historic Restoration / Merchandise Mart
St. Louis, Missouri

Clayco completed renovations to the historic Merchandise Mart building on Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis in 2003, providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing design-build and general construction services. The $47 million total project cost was funded in part by tax-exempt bonds, low-income housing credits, and federal and state historic renovation tax credits. Historic Restoration, Inc. was the developer of the project.

Designed by architect Isaac Taylor, the building was designated a city landmark in 1979 as “The Mart” and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 as the “Liggett and Myers/Rice-Stix Building.”
