Project Description

Clayco was selected to build the new regional distribution center near Bessemer, Ala., that serves more than 1,100 Dollar General Stores. The $56 million project included the construction of nearly 1 million square feet of warehouse and office space, a truck maintenance facility, two guard houses and a pedestrian walkway bridge connecting employee parking to the main building. The project was on a fast-track schedule and was completed in one year. More than 2 million square feet of concrete paving surrounds the distribution center to accommodate employees and semi-truck fleet. The construction process was sequenced to protect the shrinkage compensating concrete floors. Heating and cooling systems utilize ammonia, gycol and water piped throughout the building.
