Clayco Completes New Federal Credit Union in Kentucky
St. Louis, MO (Feb. 22, 2008)
Clayco Inc. has completed a new facility for Fort Knox Federal Credit Union in central Kentucky.
The new one-story building serves as a replacement branch for the credit union’s previous busy location at 713 West Lincoln Trail Blvd. During construction, the credit union temporarily relocated the branch to allow for successful demolition and construction of the new facility. Completed in January, the new location features 6,200 square feet of new construction space for additional lobby tellers and 2,700 square feet for the drive-thru lanes and canopy.
The increased size of the drive-up lanes was constructed using a “double stacking” method to increase drive-thru capacity without developing additional land. The drive-up tellers located inside the building are arranged for maximum efficiency with two-way audio/video links, and two-sided access to the tube stations allows tellers to adjust their efforts based upon demand for the drive-up lanes.
“Clayco’s experience in building financial facilities allowed us to develop the best possible solution to maximize the capacity for Fort Knox’s new building and site,” said Tom Mooney, project director. “Our solution for the project created a high capacity and efficient facility for the employees at Fort Knox Federal Credit Union.”
The credit union was designed with a modern yet traditional feel. Design features in the credit union include glass walls between the offices and lobby, high ceilings, metal grillwork, antique replica lamps and pendant lighting. The exterior is composed of brick with pre-cast features.
As with every project, Clayco utilized sustainable elements whenever possible. Clayco’s team recycled demolished asphalt paving, used new materials with high-recycled content, and built an energy-efficient white thermoplastic polyolefin membrane roof for the low-sloped areas.
“We were very impressed with the Clayco project team,” said Bill Rissel, president and chief executive officer at Fort Knox Federal Credit Union. “The team worked with us to develop an innovative solution to suit our needs. The building went up according to plans and ahead of schedule. We are very pleased with the results.”
In addition to Mooney, Clayco’s project team included Paul Barrath, project executive; Steve Skaggs, project superintendent; Matt Beckett, project manager; Pat Baldera, project engineer; and Tiffany Chadwell, construction administrator.
Forum Studio Inc. was the architect for the project.
