Local Concrete Construction Projects Receive Quality Awards
St. Louis, MO (December 8, 2009)
Clayco Inc. and Concrete Strategies LLC have received recognition for outstanding concrete construction from the Concrete Council of St. Louis.
For their work on the Novus International Corporate Headquarters and Villa Lighting warehouse projects, Clayco and Concrete Strategies have been awarded Quality Concrete Awards. Concrete Strategies also received this distinguished Award for its contributions as subcontractor on the River City Casino and the Route 55 Overpass Rehabilitation projects.
“Both our teams are extremely proud to be presented with this prestigious honor. We have had the unique opportunity to truly impact and ensure the excellence of the landscape of the St. Louis area through these projects,” said Joe Vitale, president of Concrete Strategies.
The Quality Concrete Awards, sponsored by the Concrete Council of St. Louis, recognize firms who have demonstrated outstanding quality in the use of concrete in the St. Louis area. Clayco and Concrete Strategies received their awards at the Concrete Council’s 2009 Quality Concrete Awards Dinner in early November.
Located in the Missouri Research Park in St. Charles, Mo., the Novus International project included structural renovation of four building additions to Novus’ existing headquarters. Achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the basic concrete and steel structure of the buildings represented over 75% of the recycled content in the facility.
The Villa Lighting project consisted of a 220,000-square-foot concrete tilt-up warehouse accented with innovative brick systems. Located on a 10.4-acre site in south St. Louis, the new structure will serve as the headquarters for the commercial lighting company.
Completed in February 2009, the River City Casino project for Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. promoted the durability of concrete in high water table areas and highlighted the ability of concrete properties to be changed through the use of additives. This demonstrates concrete’s flexibility for use in high-risk conditions, as well as being an excellent product for general construction.
The Route 55 Overpass project included the rehabilitation and concrete overlay of seven overpasses on Route 55 in south St. Louis. Concrete Strategies, with the help of CTS Cement, used Rapid Set Low P in lieu of latex modified concrete which produced superior results in terms of workability and finish. The completed bridges serve the commuting public in the area.
