Clayco Inc. And Gesa Credit Union Take The LEED In Sustainable Banking
St. Louis, MO (February 9, 2010)
Unveiled at a dedication ceremony in November, Gesa Credit Union’s new corporate headquarters celebrates the company’s growth and dedication to environmentally-friendly practices. With the help of expert sustainable construction partners Clayco Inc. and Forum Studio, the 76,000-square-foot home office and branch facility in Richland, Wash., was built with sustainable strategies to achieve certification in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Green Building Rating System.
“Gesa’s new home office and branch facility demonstrates the credit union’s growth, but more importantly showcases its investment in the Tri-City community. The project successfully implemented several sustainable features, including energy efficient lighting, an underground storm water detention system, and rapidly renewable products including cork flooring and bamboo millwork,” said Paul Barrath, Business Unit Leader for Financial Facilities at Clayco and project executive on the Gesa Credit Union facility project. “Moreover, the project focused on using local contractors and resources to provide an economic benefit to the surrounding communities and limit the natural resources used in transportation.”
Completed in just 14 months, the new four-story operations facility features a full-service branch on the main floor, along with training rooms, community rooms, and drive-up services with two way remote video. The facility houses administrative offices, as well as Business Services, Commercial Lending, Investment Services and Mortgage Lending departments. The building is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as smart boards in many of the conference rooms, biometric access to the safe deposit boxes, cash dispensing machines for faster transaction processing, and deposit taking ATMs.
“Gesa Credit Union is proud of our 56-year history in the Tri-Cities, and the financial services we have brought to Eastern Washington. Still committed to our roots and the communities we serve, Gesa is excited to offer our members and neighbors the first credit union home office and branch facility in the state of Washington to be built to achieve LEED certification,” said Christina Brown, President/CEO of Gesa Credit Union. “Our new facility includes several features that positively impact the area, as well as offers a new location to provide quality, economical services to our members.”
Joining Clayco and Forum Studio on the project, G&W Engineering acted as MEP designer, Alper Audi, Inc. served as structural engineer, and Stock & Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc. acted as the civil engineer.
Gesa Credit Union has assets exceeding $926 million and is based in Richland, Wash. Since 1953, Gesa has made more than $2.2 billion in loans and now serves over 90,000 members.
