Clayco Completes Second Green Facility For Gesa Credit Union
St. Louis, MO (March 3, 2010)
Clayco Inc. has announced the completion a new 5,600-square-foot branch in Kennewick, Wash., for Gesa Credit Union. Designed and built to rigorous Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for sustainable building design and performance, the branch features significant energy and water savings.
“This is our second LEED project for Gesa, a credit union that is concerned with all aspects of the environment and community,” said Paul Barrath, Business Unit Leader for Financial Facilities at Clayco. “The new Kennewick branch reinforces both of our companies’ commitment to the full spectrum of sustainable opportunities within the financial sector.”
Located at Union and 27th Street, the environmentally-friendly building incorporates a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the structure itself and the broader community. Water saving fixtures, such as dual flush toilets and low flow sinks, reduce the facility’s water consumption by 45.6%. Rapidly renewable materials, such as cork, have been incorporated into the design, as well as the use of an eco-friendly refrigerant that does not cause global warming or ozone depletion.
Due to the use of open design and clerestories, over 75% of the occupied space has natural lighting and over 90% of the occupied space has views to the outside, which provides potential business returns in occupant well-being and increased productivity. The new facility also features a decrease in electric use by 22.4% and a decrease in gas use by 43.2%, as compared to a building designed to American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 90.1 2004 standards.
The building has a unique circular front with a standing seam metal roof and lobby clear height of 22 feet, as well as a free-standing drive-up facility; all of which provides great presence on the site and are distinctive in the area. The state-of-the-art facility also offers a self-service safe deposit vault and numerous other member-friendly services.
Joining Clayco on the team was Forum Studio, as architect and interior designer, Stock & Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc., as civil engineer, Alper-Audi, Inc., as structural engineer, and G & W Engineering Corporation, as MEP engineer. Clayco also recently completed Gesa’s 76,000-square-foot home office and branch facility in Richland, Wash.
Gesa Credit Union has assets exceeding $926 million. Since 1953, Gesa has made more than $2.2 billion in loans and now serves over 90,000 members.
